My team, the Natal Sharks, have defied all the critics and beaten both the much-vaunted Bulls and Western Province with all of their Springboks, as though that is an indication of how good the team is. Two weeks ago, they beat the champion Bulls 16-12, although the score should have been more and this week in the Final they destroyed Western Province 30-10.
The Province team can’t even claim that they choked because they were never really in the game. They were absolutely destroyed. The biggest danger was that it was a Final and that it would be an arm wrestle and the Province flyhalf was a kicking machine and has an 80% conversion rate. In the end, he finished with a 50% success rate and Patrick Lambie, the twenty year old prodigy ended with the 80% success rate and two tries and ended with twenty-five points and is only second on the points scoring history after Derek Hougaard with twenty-six points in a Final.
Last weekend, my family and I were in Durban and it was great but mistimed. If I could have waited a week we would have been able to go to the Final. It was still a great holiday though and something I really needed. We went to ABSA Stadium and the Moses Mabhida Stadium. It still feels as though I could use another holiday but at least I’ve had something of a break before the start of the audit season. I’m so dreading the audit season but what can one do other than soldier forward?
